Central historic Rome is an easy, pleasant walk in narrow alleys of  window shopping, café bars and gelato shops.  All the sites are easily reached on an afternoon stroll; Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, etc.  If you wish to visit the Vatican and especially the Sistine Chapel, a tour is a must. My adventure to the Cotswold’s was a walking tour from one charming small town to the next.  My family and I walked the Cotswold hills for 6 days staying in a different inn each night, some as old as 500 years. Otavalo is a city about 34 miles north of Quito, Ecuador (1 1/2 hour drive due to the mountains country).  On Saturdays, the massive Otavalo market overflows from the Plaza de Ponchos and colorful textiles and crafts fill tents along streets in a third of the city. Otavaleños are famous for their weavings, everything from blankets and bags to sweaters and gloves.

Sacha Lodge in the Amazon Rainforest is a short 1/2 hour flight from Quito to Coca, The local markets of Coca are enjoyed for a short time before you board a two hour boat ride (large motor powered canoe) down the Napo River to the lodge, stopping along the way to see a fascinating museum which gives you a broad view of the life of native tribes living in the Amazon.

Shh!   It’s a secret; but not for long!!

As the 4^th and final stop on my recent journey to Puerto Vallarta, Secrets Resort and Spa was a long anticipated delight.  As you step out of your taxi you are greeted with chilled bubbly and a cool towel meant to erase any traces of residual discomfort from running the “timeshare gantlet” at the airport  (have no fears the gantlet run isn’t really all that bad).  You can read all about it in my soon to to be published “Arriving in Puerto Vallarta” segment.
